Basic

No matter how refined or civilized we try to be,no matter the graciousness we nurture in us; the primal instinct always lurks underneath waiting for a gap enough to crawl out. No matter how much we try to veil ourselves in the mask of civilization,in our hearts we stay the animal.
This basic instinct may be for better or for worse. It simply revolves around one target: self preservation. It is the same instinct that nudges our subconscious when danger is near which more focused individuals term  as intution and use it to great advantage. It is the same basic urge that compells a most gentle lady to carve out the heart of a gazelle when stranded on an island for weeks.
While it is what our subconscious relies on in times of dire need we need not let it control our every response. For when this instinct rules all others fade:such as mercy, compassion, understanding. We become a snarling predator only. So what remains of the difference we have been boasting of since centuries? What claim we have to call ourselves as superior species? What use remains of our intelligence?
In suitable proportion it is necessary and mandatory. But it is to be noted that not letting it be reined ,letting it dominate us makes us a vulnerable animal. Besides, there will be none of the pride or self esteem left. Of course for some people esteem be damned when survival is at question. I have nothing more to tell them for it is their business to decide whether they choose to degrade or be a human.

Quote

Why it is so that people derive greater pleasure and satisfaction in others misfortune than happiness? Is it because of some primal instinct to compete and battle for survival?

Innocence

Naivity is a luxury that can't be afforded. Its a trait that brings rude awakening along with it. Rude and cruel. For this world has neither time nor patience for it. World indulges in sweet innocence but upto a limit. After that either it simply crushes it or turns it dark. The pace of time is too rushed for innocence to catch up. It drowns somewhere in the crazy whirlpool of past. Just some tainted remains float to remind us what once was and what has been now lost.
What really defines innocence? Of course individual opinions may vary. I am here to oppose no one but just express mine. Innocence is the blissful ignorance of darker entity. It is the eyes which has seen rosy sunshine but not the cold night that follows after. I do not intend to confuse innocence with luxury. Neither I mean to say children are sole emblem of innocence. Sometimes it can become the solace to seek in the prison of your own mind which is more appropriately termed as denial. Innocence is simply the sweet fragment ,the delightful facet of ignorance, inexperience .
